Salesforce Tower, formerly known equally the Transbay Belfry, is a i,070-pes (326 m)[1] office skyscraper in the Southward of Market district of downtown San Francisco, completed in 2018. Salesforce Tower is the centerpiece of the San Francisco Transbay redevelopment program. The program contains a mix of function, transportation, retail, and residential uses. Upon its completion in 2018, it became the tallest skyscraper in the San Francisco skyline, with a top roof meridian of 970 anxiety (296 m) and overall pinnacle of 1,070 feet (326 m), surpassing the 853 feet (260 k) Transamerica Pyramid. Developer Hines Interests Limited Partnership, with a proposal past architect César Pelli of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects,[14] was selected as the winner of a global contest in 2007 to entitle and purchase the site. A seven-fellow member jury of evolution experts assembled by the Transbay Articulation Powers Authorisation (TJPA) selected Hines over proposals from Woods Urban center Enterprises and builder Richard Rogers; and from Rockefeller Development Group Corp. and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.[fifteen] In 2012, Boston Properties caused a 50% stake in the project and in 2013 acquired nearly of Hines' remaining involvement to become 95% owners of the projection.[16]

The site of the belfry was in a battered area, formerly used as a ground-level entrance to the San Francisco Transbay Final, which was demolished in 2011. The Salesforce Tower consists of a glass and steel drape wall, surrounding a structural steel frame, which surrounds a reinforced concrete cadre.[25] The building is enclosed in a lattice consisting of white aluminum fins and perforated sunshades, which reach out equally much as 2 feet beyond the glass peel.[26] The tower's silhouette is smoothly tapering off toward the elevation.[26]

The footprint of Salesforce Tower rests on land fill near San Francisco's original waterfront, an area prone to soil liquefaction during earthquakes. To account for this seismic risk, the tower uses a design that is modeled to withstand the strongest earthquakes expected in the region.[27] Its foundation includes 42 piles driven down most 300 feet (91 chiliad) to bedrock and a 14-foot (4.3 chiliad) thick foundation mat.[28]

The 61st flooring is known as the "Ohana Floor" and serves equally an observation deck and lounge for Salesforce employees and guests.[29] It is made bachelor for use by nonprofits on evenings and weekends.[ commendation needed ] On Feb 5, 2019, the company announced and opened advance registration for public tours of the "Ohana Floor" once every calendar month starting February 23.[thirty] The building'south pinnacle 150 feet above the 61st floor have been described as "largely ornamental".[26]

At the time of the building's opening in January 2018, the San Francisco Relate'south architecture critic John King characterized it as "Immense but understated. Overwhelming yet refined. A study in thick-walled minimalism that seems to hover more soar.
